Utilizing SPSA Services
When the pandemic first began, we had no idea how it would affect our lives so drastically. With such uncertainty about the future, it was a brave and difficult choice to attend post-secondary not knowing what it would look like. As we continue with our journey of remote learning, and the constant adapting that comes with it, my hope is that all students know that they are not alone.
The combination of separation and regular expectations can be a lot to handle, but the SPSA and all those associated are available to help in any way we can. One service the SPSA offers is, “Assistance From A Distance”. This online schedul-er allows you to set up a video conference or phone call that you can use to ask any number of questions. Assistance From A Distance can be used to chat with our staff about your Health and Dental Plan, student advocacy, the SPSA legal service and more. You can also schedule a chat with a member of the SPSA Executive Council to discuss your student concerns, suggest ideas and provide your thoughts on the student experience.
For your mental health, the SPSA is partnered with myWell-ness to offer students online counselling. Online counsellors can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are available in a variety of different languages.
The SPSA also has a full-time student advocate on staff. The role of the advocate is to assist students with questions regarding grade appeals, academic misconduct issues and more. If you feel you are being treated unfairly in your program or are being required to discontinue, be sure to reach out to our student advocate for assistance.
No matier where you are in this journey, your success and well-being are always a priority. Know that you are not alone, and you do not have to figure everything out on your own.
